Make reports people can actually read

Annual reports are too expensive to be treated like filing cabinets.

Reporting work often begins as compliance and ends as a missed communication opportunity. A good report still satisfies the formal requirement, but it also helps investors, employees, partners and journalists understand what changed and why it matters.

Structure before decoration

The most useful design decision often happens before the first page is styled. What does a reader need to know first? Which numbers deserve context? Which sections can be scanned and which require sustained attention? Where should the digital experience behave differently from the printed document?

Good reporting work brings editorial structure, information design and production together early. That reduces the late-stage cycle of moving finished paragraphs around a finished layout.

A report can do more than report

The research, data and narrative inside a major report can feed investor communication, recruitment, social content, media materials and leadership presentations. Treating the report as a content source rather than a dead-end deliverable makes the investment work harder.

The result should make the organisation easier to understand, not merely prove that every required paragraph exists.
